About Us / Acerca del caucus
The Latinx/ Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus is a young caucus that started on October 8th, 2012 when Dr. Yvette Huet e-mailed several dozen persons gauging interest in forming a Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Organization. There was so much interest that soon two meetings took place in the month of November 2012. The first get-together, a social activity, took place in the Potting Room in the McMillan Greenhouse. On February 12, 2013, the third meeting took place where the attendees talked about officers and plans for a constitution. The notification of electronic voting officers and the Constitution was sent on March 10th, 2013. Faculty members of the newly formed Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus participated in the 2nd Annual UNC Hispanic/Latinx Faculty Forum in Wilmington, NC. This Annual Forum is a great opportunity for the faculty to connect and network with other Latinx/Hispanic Faculty from the UNC System. The forum also offers the opportunity for professional development for all the attendees. Fourth and fifth meetings took place on October 1st, 2013, and November 11th, 2013 respectively. After the November meeting, dues were collected and the Latinx / Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus has an IRS identification number and a bank account. Our next meeting was on December 3rd, 2013, and on December 6, 2013, a social potluck to celebrate the First year of the Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus.
Nowadays, the Latinx/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus officers meet at least every quarter, and all members meeting twice a year. We also get together for potluck lunch/dinners, conference participations, among other get-togethers.
